Here’s a chance to explore Korea’s heritage in Daegu. In recent years, Korea’s balance of old traditions and contemporary culture has made it a popular destination with visitors around the world. Daegu in particular has a special place in Korean history. The city’s current name dates back to the 8th century, and it has been a prominent center for Buddhism and Confucianism through several different dynasties. Highlights of its heritage include UNESCO World Heritage sites and must-see attractions like the oriental medicine market that has been trading internationally for over 350 years.

Seokguram, located on Tohamsan Mountain, is the representative stone temple of Korea. The official name of Seokguram, National Treasure No. 24, is Seokguram Seokgul. Designated as a World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1995, it is an artificial stone temple made of granite. A small but noble pantheon of divinities symbolizing Buddhist philosophy and aestheticism, the eighth-century cave temple is a structure of sublime beauty culminating religious belief, science and fine arts which flowered in the golden age of Asian art.
Bulguksa Temple is the representative relic of Gyeongju and was designated as a World Cultural Asset by UNESCO in 1995. The beauty of the temple itself and the artistic touch of the stone relics are known throughout the world.
Silla Arts and Science Museum is located in Gyeongju Folk Craft Village, and displays miniature models of cultural assets in the region in order to promote the scientific principles of the cultural properties.

EXCO - The Museum of Confucian Culture – Byeongsanseowon - Hahoe Village

The Museum of Confucian Culture is Korea' only museum devoted to Confucianism and Confucian culture. the museum was built in June 2006 at the Korean studies advancement enter (KSAC) as part of the general Confucianism center.
Byeongsanseowon is a Confucian school that was established by esteemed Confucian scholars to pay tribute to the memory of Seong-nyong Yu (1542-1607), who was well-respected for his writings and personality. By forming a folding screen like shape around the academy, the mountains both protect and add a serene beauty to the area.
Hahoe Village (translating to “Village Enveloped by Water”) gets its name from Nakdong River, which flows around the town’s perimeter. The village is located at the foothills of Hwasan Mountain, an offshoot of Taebaek Mountain that rises up to the east. The center of the village is populated by large tile-roofed houses belonging to the Ryu clan, adding their own unique charm to the surrounding thatched roofs.

Daegu Modern History Street is an experience trip to see the modern history that lives on in the alleyways of Daegu. Compared to other regions, Daegu suffered less damage during the Korean War, allowing the city to clearly show the changes that happened from before and after the war. The course includes locations that were important venues of historical moments from the previous generations.
Daegu's Yangnyeongsi used to be a famous herb market that attracted visitors from China and Japan. The Yangnyeongsi Exhibition Hall was built in 1993 to revive the old fame and glory of the market. Located in Daegu's Herb Medicine Alley, the Museum has multiple exhibitions and various hands-on experience programs. The exhibition features various oriental medicinal herbs as well as objects and texts related to Oriental medicine.
Seomun Market (formerly known as ‘Daegu-Keun Market’) of Daegu is steeped in history. Along with Pyeongyang Market and Ganggyeong Market, Seomun Market was one of the three main markets during the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910). Seomun Market is the largest traditional street market in Daegu, containing more than 4,000 shops. Almost anything can be bought here, from food to clothing to leather goods, although its most famous products are textiles, clothes, accessories, ceremonial products, and traditional Korean products.
